Early Learning Programs: Preschool & Transitional Kindergarten

Preschool and TK help children to become thriving, lifelong learners and prepare them for kindergarten and success for the rest of their life. Children who attend preschool and transitional kindergarten are more likely to graduate from high school, attend college and become successful adults in life.

We are excited to announce that the Robla School District will be offering expanded opportunities for more Robla children to participate in preschool and transitional kindergarten (TK) beginning in the 2022-23 school year! We invite you to learn more so that you can make the best choice for your child and your family.

Robla Preschool

At Robla Preschool, we treasure the uniqueness of each child, promote healthy families, and provide key experiences that support children’s natural interests as they explore, learn and discover. Robla Preschool nurtures children’s natural curiosity and uses it as a foundation for language development, and we use both play-based and project-based learning approaches to foster learning and social-emotional skills in positive, natural, meaningful, engaging, and hands-on activities.

Eligibility: Birth-4 years old. Parents whose 4 year old children are TK eligible also have the option to place their child in the preschool program at the Robla Preschool. Four year old children who attend Robla Preschool in the 2022-23 school year may attend TK or Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year, depending on their birthday.

  • Part and full-day preschool programs to children 3 to 4 years old
  • Playpals program designed for parent and child learning for children who are birth to 3 years old. This program helps transition children to preschool and supports parenting skills.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

With a balance of play and engaging instructional approaches, Robla’s Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two- year kindergarten  program that provides them with the first year of the social, emotional, and academic skills and learning they need to be successful in kindergarten.  This is a free program in Robla School District.

TK represents a true bridge between preschool and regular traditional Kindergarten.  Transitional Kindergarteners learn by doing, playing, talking, listening, and modeling others. Taught by a credentialed teacher with early childhood expertise, TK uses a unique, specialized curriculum that is based on the Common Core Kindergarten standards but is designed explicitly to support the social, emotional, physical, and academic needs of young 5 year-olds.

Eligibility: Your child can attend TK if they are 4 years old, and will turn 5 on or before February 2, 2023 for the 2022-2023 school year. For the 2023-2024 school year, these children will attend kindergarten.

Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, our TK program will be housed at Main Avenue School and Bell Avenue School, and is open to all children who live within Robla School District’s boundaries.  We plan to expand this program at all of our schools.

Schedule: Our TK schedule includes a 6 hour program, and has the same schedule as our kindergarten through third grade schedule.

Additional Services: Transportation, breakfast and lunch are provided to all students.  We are also offering an Extended Day program for our TK students.  This program will allow students to stay at school for activities and learning until approximately 6:00 in the evening.
