Help your child succeed in school by building the habit of good attendance early.
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Layout clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
Don’t let your child stay home unless he or she is truly sick. Complaints of a stomachache may be a sign of anxiety, but not a reason to stay at home.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, Social Worker, Coordinator of School Climate, principal, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
In addition to our school’s attendance rewards, find ways to reward and praise your child for their attendance, so that it becomes a habit.
