Key District Milestones

August 11, 1896 - Founding of Oak Grove School District

The district is officially established as the Oak Grove School District, opening its doors to just 12 local students in a small rural schoolhouse.

April 14, 1916 - Official Renaming to Robla School District

To eliminate confusion with the local railroad station and post office—and drawing inspiration from roble, the Spanish word for "oak trees"—the board officially renames the system Robla School District.

1937 Construction of Modern Robla Elementary (89 Yrs)
Replacing the original rustic single-room building, a new permanent brick campus for Robla Elementary School opens, establishing a long-term hub for neighborhood education.

1952 – 1962 - Mid-Century Campus Expansion Era
In response to North Sacramento's post-WWII housing explosion, Robla opens four dedicated neighborhood schools:

1952: Bell Avenue Elementary (74 Yrs)

1954: Main Avenue Elementary (72 Yrs)

1956: Taylor Street Elementary (70 Yrs)

1962: Glenwood Elementary (64 Yrs)

1989 - First Major District Modernization

Robla launches a comprehensive facilities initiative to upgrade classroom technology, install updated whiteboards, and modernize interior learning environments across all active campuses.

1998 - Robla Preschool Center Opens

Recognizing the critical importance of early childhood development, the district establishes the Robla Preschool / Early Childhood Center to deliver dedicated Head Start and pre-K programs.

2004 – 2014 - Campus Expansion & Tech Integration

Robla expands capacity with new classroom wings, upgraded playgrounds, and 1:1 student technology initiatives, ensuring every child has direct access to digital learning tools.

2016 – 2020 - STEAM & Dual-Language Programs Launched

The district enhances its core curriculum by introducing specialized STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) labs, expanding after-school enrichment, and offering dual-language immersion pathways.

2026 – 2027 - Celebrating 130 Years of Heritage

Robla School District marks 130 years of continuous operation, serving over 2,000 students across six modernized campuses while honoring generations of Sacramento families.
