RSD Staff Distance Learning Guidelines

Become familiar with these Distance Learning Guidelines.  These will help you understand your responsibilities for teaching in this new way and creating a schedule for each week.  
 
Weekly Live Connection
  • Per MOU, all teachers will make a phone call to students in their class for the purposes of checking in on the students’ well-being. 
  • Special Services Staff will connect with the students on their caseload. 
  • Specialists will contact students with whom they feel the need to do so.
  • Teachers will use a contact log supplied by the district to record student contact.
  • Ways to connect with families - phone call, Zoom, Google Voice, etc.
Daily Message for New Learning
  • A daily whole class message (written or recorded)  from all classroom teachers will be posted. It will have a greeting and set objectives for learning for the day before beginning instruction.  
  • Specialists will correspond with students with whom they feel the need to do so. 
  • Post on Google Classroom
    • Written messages can be posted directly on Google Classroom
    • Video can be recorded through Zoom, Youtube, Flipgrid, etc.
Office Hours
  • Teachers will hold office hours for students and/or parents 1.5 hours a week
    Platforms: Phone call, Google Meet, Zoom, Class Dojo, Blooms, Google Voice, SeeSaw, Remind (can be split over several days) 
Weekly Lesson Plan
  • Weekly set of lesson plans must be shared with administrators, RSP, SLP, Intervention, and EL specialists the week prior to assigning for consultation on accommodations & modifications by the Friday before.
  • Sample Lesson Plans
TK-2
  • ELA/Writing (30 min-1 hour) 
  • Math (30-45 min.)
  • Science and social studies is embedded (at least 1 science or SS lesson a week) 
  • ELD: integrate into ELA 
  • 30 minutes of reading (epic, being read to, independent)
3-6
  • ELA/Writing (1-2 hours)
  • Math (45 min-1 hour)
  • Science and social studies is embedded (at least 1 science or SS lesson a week)
  • ELD: integrate into ELA
  • 30 minutes independent reading
Enrichment Teachers 
  • 30-40 minute daily lesson for each grade level span (K-1, 2-3, 4-6)  of enrichment in art, technology, and PE
  • Post on Google Classroom
  • Enrichment teams will upload daily lessons for grade level spans (K-1, 2-3, 4-6). This will be uploaded to the teacher's Google Classroom or to the enrichment teacher’s google classroom. 
    Plaforms: Google Classroom.

  • Intervention, RSP, SLP, & EL Support Teams will meet to determine a plan.
    Platforms: Google Classroom, Zoom
Know your grade level learning targets if you are a classroom teacher or learning targets for specialists.  See also recommended resources for teaching to these targets.
Instruction can be a combination of whole class, small group, or individual discovery.
 
Whole Class:
Teaching can be live or recorded
  • Live video through Zoom, Google Meet, etc
  • Recorded videos posted on Google Classroom (Zoom, Youtube, Flipgrid, etc)
Small Group/Individual:
  • Possible Platforms - Zoom, Flipgrid, etc.
Students:
  • will submit work as appropriate.
    Plaforms: Google Classroom, Freckle, Envisions, Class Dojo portfolios, etc.
Teachers:
  • Teachers will provide feedback to students on assignments that are “turned in” (grading, comments, discussion)
    Plaforms: Zoom, Google Classroom, weekly phone calls, etc.
  • Teachers will respond to the parent or student communication within 24 hours.
    Platforms: Phone call, Google Meet, Zoom, Class Dojo, Blooms, Google Voice, SeeSaw, Remind
