Eileen Aguba Chen, a longtime educator with deep experience as a collaborative leader with a focus on building academic goals, instructional programs, and professional development, has been selected as Robla School District’s next superintendent. The appointment was approved by the Robla Board of Education at their meeting on March 29, 2023.
Mrs. Chen comes from the Pittsburg Unified School District in Pittsburg, CA, where she has served as Executive Director of Educational Services since July 2018. She began her career in education in 2001 as a teacher at Pittsburg High School and was promoted to Assistant Principal. In 2011, she was appointed to be the Principal at Los Medanos Elementary, the district’s only California Distinguished and Title I Academic Achievement School, prior to moving to the central office in the Educational Services department in 2015.
Mrs. Chen received her B.S. in Mathematics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She earned her Administrative Credential and Masters in Educational Leadership from California State University, East Bay. She is a member of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and California Association of Asian & Pacific Leaders in Education (CAAPLE).
“Mrs. Chen's ability to foster relationships, connect schools and communities, and support success for diverse learners will ensure all our children continue to thrive in a student-centered instructional program. We are excited to welcome her to the Robla family,” said Craig DeLuz, President of the Robla School District Board of Education.
“Mrs. Chen values the diverse needs of the students we serve in the Robla School District and is a proven leader who will continue to expand upon Robla’s strong academic programs, while also responding to the district’s new and growing needs in the future,” said Superintendent Ruben Reyes, who will be retiring at the end of June.
Mrs. Chen begins her tenure on July 1, 2023, and over the next three months, she will begin getting acquainted with the Robla School District and transitioning into the role of superintendent alongside retiring superintendent Ruben Reyes.
“The Robla School District has a reputation of deep care for its students and families, excellence and collaboration, and strong partnerships to engage students and help them thrive and flourish personally and academically,” said Mrs. Chen. “I look forward to leading with trust and transparency and working alongside Robla’s dedicated and talented teachers, parents, staff and Board to support instructional programs, approaches and learning communities that advance our reputation as a district of excellence that ensures every student has the opportunity to be inspired and find success in their future,” she continued.
